Ski Juwel
Ski Juwel is a brand new ski area that opened in 2012-13. Following a multi million euro development, the Wildschonau and Alpbachtal ski areas are linked to create one larger ski area, named Ski Juwel.
The link is essentially an eight person gondola which runs parallel to an existing eight person Pogl lift from Inneralpbach to the Penchalm up to the Schatzberg mountain. A new piste has also been created from the Schatzberg to the Pechalm.
The new ski area effectively creates 145km of mixed terrain with 47 lifts. Six separate ski areas, 3 in Alpbachtal and 3 in Wildschonau are now all covered on the one lift pass. The most important ski resorts-Alpbach and Auffach are now effectively linked. For those staying in Auffach you can now access the more challenging runs in Alpbach and for those in Alpbach the more gentle runs of Auffach can also be accessed, so for mixed group skiing this new ski area is great news. And if you choose to stay in Niederau, a popular resort with the British, this new link effectively opens up 5 times the amount of slopes than you had before. A free ski bus connects all ski resorts in the area.
Riders tend to congregate in Auffach where you will find the snowboard park with a pro jump, quarter pipe, rails and a 90m long half pipe.
