Ski the Milky Way Italy
Welcome to the Milky Way, not quite another galaxy, but an excellent Italian ski area. The extensive circuit of slopes covers 400km, around the villages of Montgenevre, Sestriere, Sauze D'Oulx, and Sansicario. Sestriere is one of the most famous resorts in the area, thanks to the 2006 Winter Olympics which were held there. Other resorts such as Sauze D'Oulx also benefited from the event, with increased investment in hotels and other facilities.
Around 25 % of the runs in the Milky Way are suitable for beginners, a mix of woodland runs for absolute beginners and steeper slopes to improve on. There is a large choice for intermediate skiers, whichever part of the Milky Way they choose to ski. For advanced skiing, the Fraiteve and Moncrons runs are well worth a visit. The area also has 35 km of cross country skiing, a snow park and some off piste in Sestriere to suit both experienced skiers and snowboarders.
Visiting the Milky Way
Other activities available in the Milky Way include a trip to the Olympic bobsleigh run, ice skating and skidooing. Those looking for a lively nightlife should head to Sestriere, while the other villages in the area offer a more relaxed après ski scene/place to stay.
Wherever you choose to stay or ski in the Milky Way, uncrowded slopes and perfect snow conditions will make your holiday a fun experience. With flights and transfers 2 hours or less, you'll be on the slopes here in no time.
