Wengen is truly a chocolate box style Swiss ski resort and although it was one of the first purpose built resorts you would never know it. The resort has worked hard to ensure that building work is in keeping with the surroundings so it it still an extremely pretty resort.
Accommodation here includes hotels, apartments, chalets and even a youth hostel but the resort does tend to be dominated by hotels, in fact today there are 24 hotels in the resort. There is also little ski in ski out accommodation available here.
Where to Look For a Chalet
Wengen itself is only accessible by means of a cog railway with visitors leaving their car at Lauterbrunnen in a large undercover car park. There are chalets throughout the resort and there are a number of chalet companies specialising in Wengen, based here.
It is also worthwhile to check out the tourist office who also have a number of chalets on their books. There are also a number of chalet style hotels that are worth checking out here.
Ski apartments have changed hugely over the years from concrete blocks to more architecturally designed buildings that offer good value for money. In addition modern apartments can now offer great facilities that would rival many hotels, including swimming pools and wellness centres.
There is a good range of accommodation on offer in Wengen from hotels, apartments, chalets and even a youth hostel. It is a resort dominated by hotels though, at the time of writing there are 24 hotels here. One thing you wont find here though is ski in ski out accommodation.
For apartments check with the tourist office who have a good number. Hotel Bernerhof is also worth checking out as it has good apartments within a hotel complex, if you are in one of the apartments you can also access the hotel facilities.
Are Apartments Really Such a Good Idea?
Apartments can certainly work out cheaper than chalets and hotels. In addition, the facilities can be very good. They can also be a good idea if you are travelling with other families or in a large group.
Skiers are often surprised to discover that Wengen, as beautiful as it is, is actually a purpose built resort. Hotels have always dominated the accommodation on offer here and newer ones that have been built are always designed to blend in well with the beauty of the resort.
So you will find a good blend of accommodation here from hotels, apartments, chalet hotels, chalets and even a youth hostel. Most of the hotel accommodation is based above the railway station and is of a high standard. You wont find any ski in ski out accommodation here.
