Ski Galibier - Thabor

Galibier - Thabor

This ski area with its 150km of marked ski runs and 25km of cross country trails sits under two iconic peaks in the region which rise up to over 3000m. This ski area groups together the resorts of Valloire and Valmeinier and is the crossroads where the northern and southern alps meet.

Valloire is the largest of the two resorts. The skiing isn't too challenging, so good for intermediates and beginners, but expert skiers may be a bit disappointed. Valloire does have a decent snow record which, whilst it sits at only 1430m, is due to it's north facing aspect. A good choice resort for families.

Visiting Galibier -Thabor

Both Valloire and Valmeiner have a lot of rustic charm and are resasonably priced and friendly. They are also quite uncrowded so a good choice if you are tired of the endless lift queues at many better known French resorts. The atmosphere is also quite lively in the evening.

There are a number of different choices in getting to this ski region. The airports at Geneva, Chambery, Grenoble and Lyon can all be accessed fairly easily. This is a great ski region if you are a beginner or an intermediate skier or boarder and want a quieter, less commercialised French ski holiday.
