Le Grand Domaine

Le Grand Domaine

Le Grand Domaine is a linked ski area located in the Maurienne Valley in France. It has established a reputation for the excellent skiing region it provides, for both families and beginners, across its two main villages of St Francois Longchamp and Valmorel.

For the large part, with the pistes going up to 2500m you have a good chance of decent snow throughout the season, meaning this is a great ski area for early or late skiing as well as the more traditional periods. There's also a great choice of airports to get you here!

Visiting Le Grand Domaine

Being family friendly, the Le Grand Domaine ski area, the villages of St Francois Longchamp and Valmorel have a large number of green and blue runs and popular ski schools. Le Grand Domaine has a number of red and black runs at a higher altitude, for the more experienced skier, but not much in the way of off piste skiing.

Intermediate runs link the two villages together, with snowboarding facilities in the same area. Other activities on offer include cross country skiing, hot air ballooning, and dog sleigh rides. The villages themselves also have a small après ski scene and a host of restaurants and shops.

The ski season runs from December through until April and snow cannons are on-hand to cover periods of sparse snow fall. Transfer times can be as little as an hour from Chambéry airport, although there are other airports within two hours from the resort. If you're a first time skier, a beginner looking to improve, or you're in a family group, then this skiing region is a great place to spend your winter sports holiday.
