Ski Southern Alps
There are a good number of resorts in this region with good snow records and of course great southern sunshine! Prices also tend to be lower here than in the north simply due to the fact that more Brits visit the Northern Alps. The resorts of Vars and Risoul make up the largest ski domain in the area, the Foret Blanche, which covers 180km of pistes. Other resorts include Chamrousse and Superdevoluy.
The ski area of Vars and Risoul has a good selection of runs for all ability levels, 108 individual pistes to choose from. Intermediates will love this area with long fast pistes that join Risoul to Vars. Vars has some of the tougher runs including a notorious mogul run down to the resort. Boarders will also love it here, the 'Surfland' includes kickers, rails and several quarter pipes.

Chamrousse is also worth a mention with 77km of downhill skiing, 35 pistes and 26 lifts, a good resort for snowboarders and with skiing above 2000m snow cover is generally very reliable. The best aspect of this ski area though isn't just that it's a great place to come if you want to avoid all the other Brits, it's also incredibly easy to get to.
Chamrousse for example has 5 airports within two hours drive, Chambery airport and Grenoble airport are just one hours drive away making it one of the most accessible resorts in the Alps.So if you want a quick transfer, beautiful surroundings and to escape from your fellow countrymen this could be the ski region for you!
