Les Orres

Built in a beautiful forested area Les Orres overlooks the Serre Poncon and Embrun Valley. It is a great winter sports destination with more on offer here than just skiing or snowboarding. Read on for more information.

Where?

Situated in the Hautes Alpes region, 15km from Embrun and 58km from Gap, Les Orres is set within a larch forest and is divided into three main areas, Pramouton, Pre-Bois and Bois-Mean. Nearest airports are Grenoble with a transfer time of 2 hours and fifty minutes and Lyon, 3 hours and 50 minutes.

On the slopes

There are a mix of ski slopes for all abilities and despite its southerly latitude it has skiing right up to 2720m creating a 1200 vertical which is big for a resort of this size.  The majority of the runs are best suited for intermediates with some lovely long cruisy runs. Whilst it's not that great for experts, there are three awesome blacks here! L'Horrible is aptly named and L'Ecureuil is bumpy as well as steep. There is good off piste here particularly around the Grand Vallon and Petit Vallon areas. The snow park has slides, 5 tables, 2 quarters and 2 big airs. The resort also has a boarder cross course.

Off the slopes

Les Orres is a charming Savoyard village with plenty of shops and restaurants. There are  a number of  activities off the slopes for you to enjoy including skijoring, fly jumping, paragliding and snowmobiling. There is also a local bobsleigh track called 'The Orrian Express', a 1.5km long track which drops 710 vertical metres, spiraling 3 times! And if this is all too active for you there is a bowling alley,cinema and a museum. There are more than a dozen bars and a lone nightclub. The resort does not offer wild nightlife but it can get quite lively.The resort is well set up for families with care facilities for all age groups. And for those of you desperate to keep in touch the resort offers 50 Wi-Fi hotspots with free access!
