If you ski Megève, did you know that this is an original jet set destination? Offering traditional French charm, a medieval village and some blatant glamour on and off-piste, you are skiing or snowboarding in one of the 'Best of the Alps' resorts. Read on to find out more.
Where?
Oozing traditional Alpine charm, ski Megève and taste the delights of one of the original glamorous French ski resorts. Now on the comeback trail, Megève ski resort is a traditional Haute Savoyard village and has all the skiing and snowboarding you could ever want (it's part of the 'Evasion Mont Blanc' ski area) in a beautiful old town setting. It's also fairly easy to get here from either Geneva, Chambéry or Sion airports or to drive.
On the Slopes
Ski Megève and you can enjoy skiing and snowboarding at three different areas, Mont d'Arbois, Rochbrune and Le Jaillet. Intermediates and beginners will find plenty here to interest them, with the first two offering some particularly pleasant skiing below the tree-line. Advanced skiers will need to go off-piste for a challenge, or head to nearby Chamonix or Les Contamines - Argentière is also a short drive away.
If you are snowboarding, there's now 2 parks and a boardercross run. Not always known as a boarder friendly resort, more and more boarders are heading here thanks to some great off-piste and on piste conditions. If you need snowsure conditions, then look at the area of Cote 2000/Rochebrune first off.
Ski Area
If you ski Megève you are also in the ski region of Évasion Mont Blanc.
Off the Slopes
Ski holidays here allow you to find some great lunchtime sports on the piste, but they tend to be expensive, and in town you'll find plenty of choices to suit every taste and budget. The après ski starts at lunchtime and continues through till the early hours although it is a quite a muted affair if we're honest. For families, there is an excellent ski school, and first-class childcare facilities, and plenty of other activities including snow-shoeing, ice-skating, sleigh rides, paragliding and helicopter rides.
Who's it Best For?
This resort is great for beginners and intermediates and also families. Its also good for those of you are a little tired of the dull, purpose built resorts and want to go somewhere with amazing character and charm.

Is Megeve Right for You?
If you like what you have read and you are ready to look at holiday options then look at the holidays we have listed below. If however you are still unsure why not let our Megève tailormade ski holidays service help you.
Megève is a beautiful ski resort to stay in. It was developed in the 1950's by the Baroness de Rothchild and is still visited by the rich and famous. It certainly still has that air of old time glamour about it. There are Michelin starred restaurants here, a romantic medieval castle, cobbled streets and certainly amazing chalets on offer.
Chalets for many symbolize a ski holiday but in many resorts they can be quite modern apartment style affairs. In Megève you will find exactly what you think a chalet should look like. One thing to think about in Megève however is that it isn't always cheap. You may get a better deal by looking a few minutes outside of the centre of the resort.
Where Should I Look For a Ski Chalet in Megève?
Staying in the centre of Megève is very convenient and not just for the restaurants and cafes. The ski lift is also right in the centre of town. There are a good number of chalets right in the centre of the resort. You will get more for your money if you look just outside the centre however. For an amazing location check out Ferme Duvillard at the bottom of the Mont d'Arbois gondola.
Megève is not the resort you really come to on a budget but there are a number of options if you don't want to break the bank. 1.5km from the centre is the Residence les Loges Blanches resort, a collection of chalet and apartments that are fairly reasonably priced. Also, look out for chalet style hotels like Les Clochettes which are a great way to reduce the costs.
In the 1960's,many modern ski resorts built really hideous ski apartments that were ugly, concrete buildings. Now apartments are more likely to be wooden clad affairs and to resemble more loft apartments than concrete jungles. Apartments can work out much cheaper than chalets and if money is an option you would do well to look for an apartment in Megève than a chalet.
Megève is not known as a budget ski resort. It still attracts the rich and famous so accommodation here can work out expensive. If you don't mind what you pay then check out the apartments right in the centre of the town where you will find luxury ski apartments. Go out of the centre for more reasonably priced accommodation. Chalet hotels are also a good option. Check out La Chaumine and Les Clochettes chalet hotels which offer good value for money.
Are Apartments a Good Option?
Well they can be cheaper although in Megeve as many are luxury offerings the price difference may not be that great. In most resorts you will find basic apartments that are certainly cheaper than the traditional chalet. If you are travelling alone or in a couple apartments are certainly worth checking out.
Many new apartments also now offer incredible facilities that are almost hotel like. Swimming pools, saunas and spas are being built in new apartment complexes which makes them an attractive offering. Also, bear in mind that apartments can also come catered.
Look for the ideal Megève hotel with GoSki.co.uk. Hotels can be a great choice on a ski holiday. Many have great facilities including swimming pools, spas and saunas and also, with all food provided, it offers a stress free ski holiday. For families, family suites can work out good value and many hotels also offer some form of childrens entertainment and also babysitting services.
What Hotels Can Megève Offer?
If you are looking for luxury hotel accommodation then you have come to the right resort. There is 5* everywhere you look. Check out the Chateaux du Mont D'Arbois a stunning 5* hotel owned by the Rothschild family. There is also the legendary 4* Hotel Mont Blanc situated right in the centre of town with great access to the slopes.
There isn't much that is budget here but do look at the Chalet D'Antoine a good value 3* hotel in the centre of the resort. Hotel la Prairie is also worth looking at but again do be warned, this is not a resort where you will find real bargain basement accommodation!
Geneva is probably the best airport to get to Megève. It's about a one hour drive away and you get a great choice of airlines and flights. Lyon is another nearby airport although most skiers and boarders do prefer Geneva. It's not for nothing that Lyon has the nickname, the 'cattle shed'.
Transferring from Geneva to Megève
Hiring a private minibus is a good option. If you pre book then you will get significant savings online. Most mini buses are 8 seater and will cost around 300 Euros. You can also easily hire a car from Geneva Airport but Megève can be a difficult resort to drive in so do consider this carefully.
