Where?
If you are going to ski Les Arcs Bourg-Saint-Maurice, you now benefit from a brand new connection to La Plagne - ski holidays just got a lot more interesting alongside the 5 resorts that make up this ski paradise. Part of the Paradiski area, there is over 200kms of terrain to ski, including the 7kms Aiguille Rouge. Access is easiest via the airports at Chambéry or Grenoble but you can also get here in under 3 hours from Geneva, Sion or Turin.

On the Slopes
Ski Les Arcs and you can be assured of something for all skiers - as it's one of the world's largest ski areas and has an amazing vertical to boot! The lift system is superb, with few queues except at rush hour. Over 50% of the pistes are graded blue or red, so beginners and intermediates will be in heaven, while expert skiers will find challenging black runs and plenty of off-piste to enjoy.
Amongst the tree-lined runs and bowls are some amazing off piste terrain and trails - there really is something for almost anyone here. Les Arcs was one of the first European ski resorts to pick up boarding, and offers a snow park, with a half-pipe, jumps and boardercross course.

Off the Slopes
Completed in 2008, the village at Arc 1950 is fully self-contained with its own shops, restaurants, bars, shops, spa, and underground parking. Of the towns, 1800 has the greatest choice of eateries - over 15 restaurants offer everything from Tex-Mex through to haute cuisine. It also has the most shops and clubs. Les Arcs 1600, and 1800 have just a handful of restaurants, although the big hotels do have restaurants. Alternative activities include hang-gliding, paragliding, husky dog and sleigh rides.
Who's it Best For?
It's usually said that Les Arcs is best for intermediates but with such a lot of piste on offer (including La Plagne and the Paradiski ski area) there really is something for every level of skier here. The tree lined pistes also mean that it's great on bad weather days.

Chalets are a great choice for a ski holiday. Nestled in amongst the slopes, skiing to your door, wood burning stove, its every skiers dream! Chalets do however come in all shapes and sizes, from those in the centre of the resort to more secluded chalets, luxury to basic and catered to non catered.
Les Arcs is not known as a huge chalet resort but you will find chalets here. It can be a little confusing choosing a chalet here though due to the number of different villages that make up Les Arcs. Below we try and suggest where you should look according to your budget.
Where Should I Look For a Ski Chalet in Les Arcs?
If you are looking for a luxury chalet then check out Les Arcs 1950. Here chalets are mostly ski in ski out. If however you want more traditional chalets then look in Plan Peisey, Vallandry and Peisey Nancroix a little further down the valley. Here you will also find more peace and quiet away from the nightlife of the main villages.
Arc 1800 is better if you have a smaller budget. head to the Charmettoger area of Arc 1800 which is the nicest bit. It's worth remembering that most chalets in Les Arcs are more chalet apartments than the traditional chalets you will find in resorts like Val D'Isere.

Apartments are more common now in ski resorts than they used to be and in many resorts they are also certainly a lot nicer than they used to be. Apartments can work out a lot cheaper than chalets and many have amazing facilities that match that of hotels including swimming pools and saunas.
Les Arcs has a good number of apartments for you to choose from, but they will vary across the different villages that make up Les Arcs. For high quality apartments check out Les Arcs 2000 which allows you to easily access the highest skiing area. If you want to be in the centre of all the nightlife then head to Les Arcs 1800 where you will also find more reasonably priced apartments. If you are on a really low budget then check out Les Arcs 1600. It's not pretty, the apartments blocks here are a hangover from the 1960's, but it's cheap and will give good access to the slopes.
Are Apartments a Good Option?
As the above shows apartments do come in all shapes and sizes. You can get great luxury catered apartments that match any chalet in what they offer. What you do compromise on is neighbours but for many that wont matter. Many apartments do work out cheaper so are well worth investigating.
Les Arcs is a good resort to get an apartment in as there are so many to choose from. It's a good resort for those on a budget and you will easily find a cheap apartment. In addition many apartments in Les Arcs, even the cheaper ones, are ski in ski out and and have great mountain views. For families travelling together apartments can also be a great idea. And many of the newer one are luxurious,modern complexes, so well worth a look.

Hotels can be a great choice for a ski holiday. Many are still family run and offer great levels of service. In addition many will provide transport to and from the airport. If you are travelling with children hotels can also be a great option as many offer entertainment and even babysitting services.
What Hotels Are Available in Les Arcs?
Les Arcs is more of an apartment resort but there are an increasing number of hotels emerging. You will find little at the luxury end of the market. There are no 5*hotels here. You will however find some good 4* hotels . Plan Peisey further down the valley has the 4* Club Med hotel which is well worth a look. There are also numerous 3* and 2* hotels to choose from if money is an issue.
Mid budget hotels include the Hotel Le Golf in Arc 1800, this also has some really good facilities including a pool and spa. For really cheap hotels check out the UCPA Les Arcs, a hostel style set up but which offers really good value for money. For large groups Les Arcs also has a good number of apart hotels which are also worth looking at.

The closest airport to Les Arcs is Chambery about 2 hours away. The next best option is Grenoble, Lyon or Geneva. Do remember to look closely at your transport to and from the airport before you book. A cheap flight may be great but if transfers are difficult it may work out a false economy.
Getting to Les Arcs from Geneva Airport
There are a number of private buses that you can get from Geneva Airport. The cost is about £75 pp return. Do check which villages in Les Arcs your bus stops in however, remember Les Arcs is a group of villages not one resort! If you plan on getting a private bus then do book before you leave as it will work out cheaper.
A private taxi could also be a good idea, many are 6 or 8 seater cars. But again do book before you leave. Many will give you up to 10% off the stated price if you book early. You can of course get a taxi at the airport but do agree the price before you start the journey.
Train to Les Arcs
One thing to consider before you book those flights is the train, as Les Arcs offers you a good alternative here. The Eurostar snow train which departs from St Pancras goes to Bourg St Maurice, from there you can take the funicular starlight to Arc 1600, very easy. The overnight service leaves London each Friday and arrives first thing the following morning. Well worth checking out if train travel is more your thing.
