Milan, Italy

Milan was the Western Roman Empires capital for over a 100 years. It is Italys business capital, home to its stock exchange as well as its world famous fashion industry. But is there more to Milan than this?

What's in Milan?

There is certainly more to Milan than money and fashion. For example it is home to Leonardo da Vincis 'Last Supper' and don't forget Caravaggios 'Basket of Fruit' hangs in the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana. There's also great opera here, countless old churches and old streets full of architectural gems. But if fashion floats your boat check out the boutiques of D&G, Versace and Armani.

There's also the football as Milan is home to AC Milan and FC Internazionale. The downside to Milan is the traffic congestion and the pollution can be awful. But how good is Milan as a gateway to get you onto the slopes?

Accessing the Alps

Milan is  a very strategic location for skiing and snowboarding as it is located at the base of the alps. In fact on a clear day you can see the Alps. But how best to get there?
