Where
If you ski Laax you are just 2 hours from Zürich airport and you get access to Switzerland's famous "White Arena ski area". Offering 220 km of skiable piste, it's the second largest linked ski area in Switzerland. Close to Flims, this ski resort has a fantastic mix of terrain for skiers, plus a snow park and 3 children's parks. With airport transfers relatively easy, a great resort to consider.
On the Slopes
Ski Laax and you get something for all ages and abilities. With 220km of piste, and plenty of off-piste choices, you'll be sure to find something to suit you. Intermediates will enjoy long cruising runs, many of therm above the tree-line, while advanced skiers should head off-piste, to the Siala and Cassons sectors. Snowboarders will find two snow parks and several half pipes available to them, and there are even 3 children's parks.

Off the Slopes
Accommodation in Laax is quite spread out, but facilities are good with over 20 mountain restaurants, and a good selection of nightclubs and restaurants in town for the evening. It is also the home of the famous Crap Bar - don't worry, it's not an assessment of the place - Crap means mountaintop! Away from the slopes you can enjoy extensive walking trails, trips to the Rhine Canyon and a superb sports centre.

Chalets really can come in all shapes and sizes and to suit all budgets. For those who have money to spend chalets can be real luxury with private chefs and swimming pools. For those on smaller budgets you can always look for a smaller self catering chalet or even a chalet style hotel.
Laax is the name for the resort that includes Flims, Laax and Falera. Together these villages make up an area known as Alpenarena. They are all linked by a shuttle bus, but each village does have its own unique personality.
Choosing a Chalet Within the Alpenarena
Laax is relatively small and sits at 1100m. All accommodation here is close to the cable car and gondola. Accommodation here is really dominated by the rocksresort with real state of the art apartments.
Flims has a more alpine feel to it with accommodation set in the pine forests here. Head for Falera if you want a quieter time of it. It sits at 1200m and is much smaller than the other two villages.
CHALETS
Ski apartments have become more popular over the years. They can work out slightly cheaper than some chalets and hotels and many of the newer developments include great facilities like swimming pools and wellness centres.
There is a shuttle bus that will get you around Laax, Flims and Falera but each village does have its own personality so do choose carefully. Laax is a small village that has the amazing Rocks Resort with contemporary apartments.
Flims also has a great range of apartments but has a more alpine feel about it. If you want a quieter resort head for Falera which sits at 1200m. Snowboarders who want good nightlife will mostly head for Laax itself.
Are Apartments Really Such a Good Idea?
Well for many they can work out cheaper. They also in many cases offer great facilities that certainly impress like restaurants, gyms and swimming pools. In addition, apartments may offer more privacy and space if you are travelling with other families or in a large group than say a chalet.
Laax is a name for what is in reality 3 ski villages, Flims, Laax and Falera. Together they make up what is called the Alpenarena. The villages are all linked by a shuttle bus which, as you would expect from Switzerland, is very efficient. But, as each village has a different personality, do choose carefully.
Laax sits at 1100m and all accommodation here is close to the main lifts. Snowboaders seem to love the bars here. Flims has a good range of hotels on offer and has a more traditional alpine feel. If you want peace and quiet then head for Falera, the smallest village of the 3.
What Type of Hotels Are On Offer Here?
Rocks Resort in Laax boasts all the latest designs and has great rooms and apartments on offer, all sitting around a central piazza. On the slopes in Laax is also the very pretty Signinahotel and for boarders the Riders Palace which can get noisy.
If you are travelling with children check Hotel Adula in Flims which has good children facilities. A lot of the hotels here have great spa facilities including the Waldhaus Flims Mountain Resort and Spa.So a good choice of hotels on offer in all 3 villages.
The nearest International airport to Laax is Zurich which is only 143km away. The transfer from Zurich is then only a maximum of 2 hours away (one and a half on a good day).
Transferring from Zurich
You can always take the train. You can get a train from Zurich airport to Chur (there are two trains each hour). From Chur you can get the Post Bus to Laax. The bus time table fits on with the train so that waiting times are kept to a minimum. In total your transfer by train shouldn't take more than 2 hours.
There is also a shuttle bus from the airport to Laax, this usually takes about one and a half hours.The bus does try and tie in with UK arrivals from Stansted and Dublin.
You can of course drive to the resort. The drive is quite straightforward, taking mostly motorway(A3) for 93km. Or you could always hire a private minibus from the airport. Do book this online before you leave home to get the best prices.
