Ski Gotthard Oberalp Arena
This ski region offers 130km of pistes and 20 lifts. It includes the ski resorts of Andermatt, Sedrun, Realp and Oberalp. There are some great slopes, good verticals, varied off piste and good beginners areas. The region is probably a little limited for intermediates. This is also one of the most snow reliable places in Switzerland.
Andermatt has been somewhat dropped by British skiers over the years but that does seem a shame. It is a pretty and traditional Swiss village with challenging skiing and fantastic off piste. It is no surprise that the Swiss army train here. Not great for beginners but brilliant for expert skiers who want steep, deep powder!
Visiting Gotthard Oberalp Arena
Snowboarders will also love this ski region due to its wide free riding areas and the biggest half pipe in central Switzerland. But the most exciting development in this ski region is the news that the Scandinavian resort operating company SkiStar is now managing this ski region and plans to link Andermatt up with Sedrun creating one single ski area with more than 80 miles of pistes.
Getting to this ski region couldn't be easier. It is only one and a half hours from Zurich airport but Geneva and Basel could also be used. For uncrowded, unspoilt challenging slopes that are snow assured you cant do better than this ski region.
