Ski Glacier-Alpes Vaudoises
This is a great area to ski in in Switzerland. Situated only 115km from Geneva it consists of 220km of downhill pistes and 74 lifts. It can also be reached in only nine hours if driving from Calais. New investment is also happening with a new 6 seater chair lift being added in Sodoleuvre to Chaux-Ronde which will take 2000 skiers per hour.
There are seven resorts in this region-Leysin, Villars, Gryon, Les Diablerets, Les Mosses, Rougemont and Chateau d'Oex. Chateau d'Oex is famous for its hot air ballooning and its railway link to Gstaad. For skiers it is best for novices or those skiers who don't want to work too hard but it does provide a great base for the rest of the region.
Visiting Alps Vaudoises
For those who want to push themselves a little harder there are plenty of other resorts in the region to do this. Les Mosses is good for intermediates, it is a fairly small resort but has a good number of red and blue runs. Leysin offers great views of Mont Blanc and the Eiger, good cruisy reds and blues and long hours of sunshine. For those wanting glacier skiing head for Les Diablerets, great blacks and off piste skiing.
So the region really does offer something for everyone and all the resorts really do offer skiing in beautiful scenery. Getting there also couldn't be easier. Most of the resorts are within an easy drive from Geneva airport and are all served on the one lift pass. So, for great variety and beautiful surroundings this is a great ski region to explore.
