The Aragonese Pyrenees

Aragon, a former kingdom in Northern Spain has magnificent countryside and scenery. It is a region traversed by the highest mountain range, the Pyrenees.It is home to some of Spains best ski resorts; Astun, Candanchu, Cerler, Formigal and Panticosa.

Astun has 42km of downhill skiing, a good choice for intermediates. It also boasts a snow park and is often a venue for national and international competitions. Candanchu is better for the more experienced skier and boarder with it's challenging steep pistes. It has 43km of downhill slopes and is famous for its off piste and cross country trails.

Visiting Aramon

Cerler is the highest resort in the Aragon Pyrenees, it is located in the beautiful valley of Benasque and is surrounded by mountains that rise to 3000m. It offers 72km of pistes and is favoured by people who want to get away from large scale commercial resorts. Formigal is the largest ski resort in Spain with 137km of pistes, a slalom course and half pipe.

Travelling to this region will usually involved you flying to airports in either Hueska, Pau, Lourdes, Zaragoza and Toulouse. Huesca is the nearest with a transport time of one and half hours. This region really is worth considering if you want good variety and you want something authentically traditional. It is also worth noting that skiing here will cost you considerably less than skiing elsewhere is better known European resorts.
