Off the Slopes

In Courchevel 1550 you'll find lower prices and a more relaxed atmosphere than further up the hill, making it much more of a family destination. Prices on both accommodation and restaurants are reasonable. Night life is centred around the Taverne, Le Barouf and Chanrossa, but beware that if you fancy heading up the hill to the bright lights, it's a long way by road. Other activities available locally include bowling, a cinema, ice skating, and a heated outdoor pool.

Courcheval really is a great place to come to ski. There are slopes to suit all abilities and the north facing aspect means that it often has the best snow in the Three Valleys ski area. The main downside is the cost of being here but if you stay in 1550 you will pay less than in 1850 and it's less pretentious!

Why Choose Courcheval 1550 in France?

1. Slopes to suit all abilities from beginner to expert

2. Access to the huge Three Valleys ski area.

3. Good lift system, snowmaking and piste maintenance.

4. Cheaper alternative to the glitzy Courcheval 1850.

Is it Right For You?

If your idea of a luxury ski holiday is a chalet then you have come to the right resort. Many consider Courcheval to be one of the Alps's biggest luxury ski resorts. So you will certainly have lots of chalets to choose from. The issue here will potentially be finding one that you can afford! There are chalets here that include gyms, swimming pools, and even private staff to assist you on your holiday.

Courcheval is also good for ski in ski out chalets as most of the villages here have good access to the slopes. Courcheval 1550 or Courcheval Village as it ;likes to be known now is cheaper than 1850 but it had a facelift in 2013 to build a huge swimming pool so how long it will remain a cheaper option is hard to say. As it has a high speed lift up to 1850, at the moment its a very cost effective option for staying in Courcheval.

Where to Look for a Ski Chalet Here

Accommodation is quieter here than elsewhere in Courcheval so don't worry too much about noise in the centre. There are a couple of bars in the village but nothing too rowdy. There are good ski in ski out chalets here as the lifts are located above most of the accommodation.

Several UK chalet operators are based here and some offer good childcare in their chalets. But throughout Courcheval 1550 you will find a good range of catered and uncatered chalets. Check out some of the chalets located at the top of the village near the Luge track as the views here are great.

CHALETS

Apartments can be  a great option on a ski holiday. For years apartments have had something of a bad press and are often seen as the poor relation to chalets. This image probably started with the concrete monstrosities that were built in the 1960's. Nowadays the modern apartment complexes, built by the likes of MGM, are loft style developments often with better facilities than most hotels.

Courcheval 1550 or Courcheval Village as it now likes to be known has always been the cheaper option in Courcheval. It is still slightly cheaper here but due to the developments that took place in the village in the summer of 2013 prices may start to go up. So get a bargain while you still can!

Some apartments to check out in Courcheval 1550 are Les Brigues apartments. Admittedly they are small but they offer great value in Courcheval. And remember the word 'budget' in Courcheval has a different meaning to elsewhere. This is not the resort to come to if you are looking for bargain basement type apartment rooms!

Are Apartments a Good Idea?

We think they are. They often work out cheaper than chalets and the facilities in the newer buildings are great, with many offering swimming pools, saunas and spas, facilities that you would traditionally only find in a hotel. Apartments can also come catered and many are ski in ski out. So don't discount apartments, they are often better than you think!
