When you need a challenge, black runs should in theory offer some difficult slopes that both skiers and boarders relish when you need a little extra! From moguls to icy narrow steep runs, a mix that shoudl get the blood pumping.

Did you know that signs for the most difficult black runs vary slightly between continents. In mainland Europe black slopes are recommended as being for advanced and expert skiers only. Often icy and steep they also narrow in places to make it really difficult. Breckenridge

In Breckenridge, Colorado, it's famous for having 55% of it's slopes as rated "black diamond". One of the most exciting ski areas anywhere in the world, there's actually 4 interconnected resorts of which 3 contain multiple black runs. Get the "Superchair" lift up the mountain and you'll be dropped by the double black diamond rated 'Imperial Bowl'. Awesome!

Jackson Hole

Alta Chutes is a combination of multiple black runs in their own right - a superb collection of difficult and challenging runs to test any expert. This run has been considered by many to be one of the ultimate black runs. You come down "Dog face run" onto the "Laramie Traverse" and then into "Pepi's run" and all the while the demands on your body and bravery increase!

There's 2 superb black runs in the one resort. Le Tunnel and Sarenne - a 16km mammoth of a run! Le Tunnel is however the most daunting and the most demanding.
