Where
Near the French village of Grenoble, ski Chamrousse for a really unique skiing or snowboarding holiday in France. Easily accessible via air or rail, you get two villages for the price of one. Le Recoin at 1650m elevation and La Roche Beranger at 1750m. Therefore, hiring a car is often a good option for easy navigation of the resort area. Transfer from Grenoble in under 45 minutes or Chambéry at just over the hour mark for either - making this great for weekends.

On the slopes
When you ski Chamrousse you are split across three different bases known as the 1650, 1700, and the 1750 depending on which area of the mountain range you plan on skiing the most. For example the 1750 is best for families on holiday and the 1650 is for those looking for an athletic challenge. Chamrousse was put on the map when Jean Claude Killy won two Olympic gold medals in the downhill and giant slalom here!
With 90km of pistes that are all sheltered evenly by the forests, skiing is available mostly for advanced and beginning skiers in all types of weather conditions at each base of the resort. There is also the breathtaking Casserousse couloir, that offers a 850m difference in height - but only for the experts! With a total of 35 ski slopes, the breakdown of trails is seven slopes for intermediate skiers, seven for advanced skiers, and 15 slopes for beginners. There are also 77kms of cross country trails for skiers who want to enjoy the peaceful serenity of the area and explore the outer edges of the villages.
Off the slopes
The après ski in the Chamrousse ski resort area is quiet and moderate, though it does attract many students to it on a yearly basis. However, since Grenoble is only between 30-45 minutes away there are plenty of restaurants, nightclubs, and bars for those who want to enjoy an active party scene after a day on the slopes for the perfect holiday.
However, there is plenty to do at the resort even without the après ski atmosphere given that there is a cinema, ice diving circle, a karaoke club, and an artificial climbing hall. For those looking for more athletic options hiking, ice skating, and snow shoeing is popular. During your stay you may also want to take the chance to see the Mussee de Grenoble which is a century Bastille fort that has been converted into a fine arts museum.
