Kaprun-Kitzsteinhorn Glacier

'100% snow guarantee' is the logo of this resort and with a top altitude of 3029m you can understand why. This is a glacier resort that has skiing from October until July, so if you are itching to ski in the summer this could be  a great choice.

Where?

Situated just south of Kaprun, this is the only skiing glacier in Salzburg.The glacier offers superb views across the valley to Zell am See. If you want to ski here then you will need to stay in either Kaprun or Zell am See, ski buses will then take you from either resort to the glacier.

On the slopes

Most of the runs here are graded red or blue which makes this an intermediates heaven. The pistes are wide and gentle with lovely soft thick snow that you get on glaciers. There are technically no blacks here but there are  non groomed steep runs and mogul runs but these are all  off piste. The ski area at Kaprun-the Maiskogel is also great for beginners. So for experts you either have the choice of off piste or you could check out Zell am See which has pistes for more advanced skiers and boarders. One of the biggest snowparks in the Alps is here with Austrias biggest superpipe, 125m long and 6.30m high, great for freeriders!

Off the slopes

This is a glacier resort so does not offer the traditional facilities that you get in  a resort. But if you stay in Kaprun or Zell am See you will find pools, skating rinks, bars and discos. Do note however that Kaprun ,although picturesque, can work out quite an expensive place to stay.So if you are looking for guaranteed snow, intermediate skiing and boarding and awesome freeriding you will find the Kitzteinhorn glacier an amazing ski resort!
