Ski Rauris for a large resort with a nice spread of slopes. Set in a small town that provides for a quiet, yet action packed ski holiday in the heart of the Höhe Tauern National Park with 25km of pistes and Bad Gastein as a close neighbour.
Where
If you choose to ski Rauris you are in a small intimate alpine village in the Höhe Tauern National Park. It is part of the local district of ski resorts including Wörth and Bucheben - the Rauris Valley. Close neighbours include the Spa resort of Bad Gastein and Kaprun - so there's plenty of options. You can reach the ski resort via key airports including the closest Salzburg (about an hour) or Innsbruck.
On the slopes
Over the last several years the Rauris ski resort has improved its lift system and terrain immensely as the area now has ten lifts including 3 gondola's to get you up the Hochalm quickly. Although there's only about 25km of pistes in this resort (with no lift-linked resorts) the terrain caters to beginners with over 50% of the runs as well as 35% and 15% of the pistes are for intermediate runs and advanced respectively. The Kreuzboden and Waldalm pistes are groomed and offer wide, long red runs, whilst for those advanced skiers and boarders get the rather special black run from the Heimalm to the bottom of the gondola.
Thus, there is something for everyone and with a wide powder region on the north side of the Rauris ski resort mountain area there is plenty of fresh snow to glide down. For those just learning there is also a ski school at the Rauris ski resort that has kindergarten ski instruction as well for parents who want to drop their children off for a bit while they hit the excellent advanced runs.
Snowboarders also enjoy the resort due to the large snowpark that is complete with a boarder cross course. For those who want more slope variety, you can hire a local guide to help discover some of the best off piste trails in the area.
Off the slopes
Although the Rauris ski resort is located in a small, traditional village that was once a gold mining centre, the authenticity of the quaint village provides for plenty of shopping at the local shops and cultural activities. The restaurants represent the best of cultural Austrian food and traditional menus. Although the village is small there are some clubs, bars, and nightclubs for those who want to hit the local après ski after a long day on the slopes.
