Famous for having Austria's largest snowpark and for the 5.5km illuminated night tobogganing run, St Gallenkirch is a good resort for beginners and snowboarders, although it isn't the prettiest resort you will ever visit in Austria.

St Gallenkirch is a small village in the southwestern part of Austria. It lies in the valley of Montafon within the district of Bludenz on Vorarlberg. Innsbruck airport is approximately 1.5 hours away and Munich 2.5 hours away.

On the slopes

For beginners and intermediate skiers and boarders the skiing in the Silvretta Nova ski area is ideal and should keep you occupied for a week or two. The snowpark here is reputed to be the biggest in Austria, so that should keep boarders happy. Staying in St Gallenkirch will enable you to access the other resorts in the Montafon ski region including Schruns which is good for beginners and Golm which is good for intermediate skiers and boarders.Expert skiers may need to look off piste for their thrills though.

Off the slopes

St Gallenkirch isn't the prettiest village to stay in, it is dominated by a big lift station and huge car park. If you want to ski the Silvretta Nova ski area and prefer a prettier village you may want to consider moving up the valley to Gaschurn. There are however a good choice of hotels and apartments here and a fairly lively apres ski on offer. There is an all weather water park here called 'Aquarena'.
