What Airport Transfer Options from Geneva Airport?

You've booked your cheap flights, got yourself a chalet but how do you now get from the airport to the ski resort if you don't want to hire a car and can't jump on a train or direct bus route? Airport transfers that's how! Geneva airport has a very wide range of options for you to choose from, so find out more.

transfer bus

So let's go from cheapest airport transfers through to the most expensive. There are a large number of airport taxis and group transfer services available both from the resort itself and from the airport. Take your time to compare a few, and why not also ask your accommodation provider whether they have a 'pick up service'.

Shared Transfers

Also called "Airport Shuttles", this is by far the most popular option. Shared airport transfers work thanks to 'bulk' bookings that lower the cost for all. So you pay for your seat on a particular route to the resort, then when you arrive, you are either met by the driver or you go to a designated spot in the airport.

Most Shared Transfers are 8/9 passenger minibuses and usually they know your chalet or apartment destination and will drop you at the door - and likewise pick you up on the return leg.

There are also scheduled shared airport transfers where you can choose which bus you catch from the airport. This means that if other friends are arriving 40 minutes later, you can choose to wait and meet them and travel together. You simply have to book the time, then follow the instructions on your voucher to find the driver / company for the transfer.

Usually if you miss the run - provided it was not the last of the day and the next one is not full, you will be allowed to board the next service.

The major downfall of the shared transfers is the return journey where you have to go round and pick up all the passengers on your particular bus. This can add over 30 minutes in the resort if you are the first to be picked up, and also means the driver will be aiming to get you to the airport well in advance of your flight!

Shared Transfer Providers

Geneva airport has a huge number of companies that offer shared transfers. We couldn't list them all here but if we look at Chamonix, only 1 hour 8 minutes, from Geneva there are 15 transfer companies including established names like Mountain Drop offs.

The cost of a shared transfer from Geneva to Chamonix ranges from 22 euros, 28 euros to 30 euros so do your research before you go and book online before you travel.

Private transfers

As it sounds, a private airport transfer is just that - an exclusive door to door service that makes your life easier on arrival at the airport and also for the return journey. Usually we are talking up to 6 or 7 maximum for a private airport transfer - taxis take up to 4 and then it's luxury minibus/MPV transport.

Your driver will meet you once you clear international arrivals and will sort all your luggage and skis into the vehicle for transfer. You will be taken to the door of your accommodation - ready to face anything! The only difference with a larger group - is that you use a luxury MPV or minibus.

Definitely the easy way to start your holiday, advantages include one to one service and more space. You can also take the transfer at your own pace - in the knowledge there's only you and a few friends to worry about.

Private Transfer Providers

Again there area huge number of providers operating out of Geneva. For example for Morzine which is only 1 hour 22 minutes from Geneva, a car taking 6-8 passengers could cost 175 euros each way, Chamonix 185 euros. As with the shared option, research and book online before you travel.

Bus

Many skiers and boarders shun buses as in the past they haven't always been the most comfortable way to travel. But with the growing number of small private bus companies emerging they could be well worth looking at.

easyBus now operate a cheap bus from Geneva to Chamonix and Alpy Bus offer 8/13/19 and 30 seater buses to Chamonix charging a modest 19.50 euros for the journey!
