Why Switzerland for Your Ski Holiday?

Why do so many of us crave a ski holiday in Switzerland? If you ask most where they'd like to ski then as well as the USA, Canada and even Japan, you'll find a lot of skiers and boarders want to head to the Swiss Alps. Perceptions of Swiss resorts are usually along the lines of pricey, elitist, friendly and exclusive. But we have found very much the opposite is true in terms of the price and elitism.

From accessing Switzerland via the excellent Swiss Train system (you pre-book your tickets for the best price as a foreign visitor) through to ski resorts that offer free child passes, you may be surprised at how reasonable the skiing really is. So knowing the ski resorts that are close to certain airports will help you plan costs for transfers.

Of course you can pay £9 for a beer and over £100 for pizza's for 4 with a drink each, but you can also pop down to the local supermarket to get bread, cheese, meats and some fruit to supplement your drinks on the slopes and it's the same price as most French or Austrian resorts.

Is there a Catch?

No catch! We believe as a family you can ski in many resorts in Switzerland on a similar budget to France or Austria (currently getting over 50% of the UK's skiers and boarders) if you are careful on how often you eat out and what you drink! Of course there are exceptions (as there are in France, Austria and Italy) like Verbier, St Moritz or Zermatt where these resorts are genuinely more expensive, so maybe best to avoid those if you're on a tight budget!
