Lienz

Lienz is a small medieval town with two main ski areas on offer, Zettersfeld and Hochstein. A good choice if you want to stay in a town set up with all the amenities on offer.

Where?

Where the valleys of Drautal, Pustertal and Iseltal meet is the town of Lienz in the east Tirol. Both Innsbruck and Salzburg are the nearest airports, both are two and a half hours away.

On the slopes

The skiing areas for Lienz are Hochstein and Zettersfeld. Zettersfeld offers 24km of piste and can best be described as offering easy to intermediate skiing. Hochstein has 16km of piste and is the more challenging ski area. You can however buy one lift pass here which will open up 400km of piste with resorts that include St Jakob in Defereggen, Matrei, Kals am Grossglockner, Sillion, Kartitsch and Obertilliach. The snowpark here is also good with a 7m high wall, kickers and rail.

Off the slopes

There is a good range of accommodation on offer here, with chalets, apartments and even the 5* Grand Hotel. As Lienz is a good sized town with 13,000 inhabitants there are a wider range of facilities than you would normally get in a ski resort. The town itself is very attractive, with old houses, side street cafes and good shops.
