The Canazei di Fassa ski resort continues to grow as people discover the scenic trails that are perfect for beginners and intermediate skiers with a charming small town atmosphere to perfectly complete the holiday. Check out this resort guide for all you need to know before you book your holiday.
Where?
Located in Italy on the Canazei Mountain, the Canazei di Fassa ski resort is a one of a kind holiday retreat. Recently becoming popular the Canazei di Fassa ski resort continues to grow in number of slopes and size while the town works hard to retain its small friendly atmosphere, making it a wonderful holiday location for all types of skiers.
On the Slopes
The main slopes all run down the side of the Canazei Mountain with the ski bus and Belvedere service as the main form of transportation. The highest altitude at the Canazei di Fassa resort reaches 1460m which is also the largest vertical drop as well among the 20 slopes. The Canazei ski resort is challenging to those who are beginners or intermediates but is not a great place for expert skiers. Also, presently there is not a snow park for snowboarders, but as the Canazei di Fassa ski resort continues to expand this is one thing you can expect to see along with more slopes for all levels of expertise.
Ski Area
If you ski Campitello di Fassa you are also in the ski region of Val di Fassa.
Off the Slopes
While you are not on the slopes you can stay busy taking one of the many snowshoe trails through the scenic Canazei local town area or inside by the fireplace of the Canazei di Fassa ski resort.
You may also want to plan meals out in town as the pure authentic Italian food of the Canazei locals is practically to die for. A friendly hint for people who are on holiday for more than just the slopes, there are plenty of nightclubs and bars to frequent but the locals do not usually venture out until after midnight. Thus you may want to wait until later for the real party to get started if you want to experience the true night scene of the Canazei di Fassa outside of nighttime skiing.
Who's it Best For?
We think this is a great ski resort for beginners and intermediates, but with the Dolomiti Superski slopes easily accessible, the skiing is good here for all levels.

If you are skiing in Canazei you will have a choice of whether to stay here or head for nearby Campitello. The advantages that Canazei brings is that its nightlife is better and you can also ski back down to Canazei but not down to Campitello.
Where to Look for a Ski Chalet
You will find hotels, apartments and chalets in Canazei. Its not known for its luxury market but prices are lower than elsewhere so you will get good value for money. There are some good 4* hotels to check out as well as some good apartments close to the gondola.
When selecting chalets in canazei try to stay as close as you can to the Belvedere gondola. Whilst there aren't luxury chalets on offer you will find some good mid priced ski chalets here. Tour operators Crystal operate here so check out their accommodation. Remember that if you are looking for a catered chalet these have never taken off as much in Italy as they have elsewhere in say France. You may do better to check out some of the good hotels on offer.
CHALETS
Apartments have become more popular in ski resorts over recent years. For many they work out a slightly cheaper option but they are also so much better than they used to be! Far from the apartments that sprung up in soulless French purpose built resorts, many of the newer apartments would rival many chalets and hotels for overall look and facilities.
In Canazei di Fassa there is a good choice of accommodation including hotels, apartments and chalets. You wont however find much that is luxury here, there are some good 4* hotels but the chalets do tend to be mid priced ones. In fact in some ways that is an advantage coming here, you certainly wont get fleeced on accommodation costs.
Are Apartments Really Such a Good Idea?
You could choose to stay in either Canazei or nearby Campitello. The advantages of Canazei is that the nightlife is better and also you can ski back down to Canazei but not Campitello. When checking out accommodation here try to stay as near as possible to the Belvedere gondola. There are some quite cheap apartments 100m from the gondola called Residence Contrin.
Apartments can work out cheaper than chalets and can be a great choice if you are travelling with another family or in a large group. Many of the newer apartment blocks also offer great facilities including swimming pools and even wellness centres.
Ski hotels are very popular amongst skiers and boarders. Often in great locations hotels can offer facilities like swimming pools and wellness centres, good food, bars and local information about the skiing and what's happening off the slopes.
In Canazei there is a fairly good choice of hotels, chalets and apartments. What is lacking is the real luxury end of the market but then it also has a reputation for being good value for money so you cant have it all!
What Hotels Are On Offer?
You can opt to stay in either Canazei or nearby Campitello. The advantages of Canazei is that the nightlife is better and also you can ski back to Canazei. Whatever your choice of accommodation do try and stay near to the Belvedere gondola.
The 4* hotels on offer include the Hotel Perla which is only 100m from the lifts. Another hotel with a good location is the 4* Hotel Croce Bianca, although it is on a main road. If a spa and pool float your boat then check out the Hotel Astoria. The best of the 3* is Hotel Cristallo but it is 600m from the gondola.

Driving to Canazei
If you are going to drive from home or hire a car do be aware that this area is popular with skiers from Italy and elsewhere in Europe so the roads can get very busy. There is also quite a good ski bus that operates between the villages in Val di Fassa so a car is not essential unless you want to ski Moena as the bus doesn't go there!
If you are planning to drive do remember that many roads in Italy are toll roads but unlike Austria or Switzerland you don't have to buy a vignette. Do make sure that the car is equipped with winter tyres as you may be driving over mountain passes.
If you want to take a bus, in the months December to April there is a bus called 'Fly Sky Shuttle to the Val di Fassa from Verona, Treviso and Venice. If you want to take the train the nearest train station is in Bolzano which is 40km away. There are good train services to this station from most cities in Italy and Austria.
