Valfréjus is a small ski resort in the Maurienne valley, purpose built in 1983. Strict planning laws have ensured that building work is in the traditional savoyard style. This is a small resort but with some good skiing and boarding for intermediates.
Where?
Valfréjus is nestled in the Maurienne valley close to the Vanoise National Park. It was built in 1983 so is one of the newer French purpose built resorts. It is built on the ski area Arrondaz close to Mondane and the Frejus tunnel to Italy. It sits above the old village of Charmaix. It is accessible from Geneva, Lyon, Chambery, Grenoble and Turin. Turin is a good choice with a transfer time of about 2 hours.

On the slopes
The ski area here is small and is best suited to intermediates. If you are an expert skier you may want to explore other resorts in the Croix du Sud ski area which include the resorts of Valloire, Valmeinier, Orelle and Bardonecchia. For snowboarders this resort is the birthplace of the Skwal, the snowboard where you place both feet facing the slope.
Off the slopes
The Valfréjus tourist office is very active and so organises torchlight descents,acrobatic ski shows and snowman building competitions. There is also 1 nightclub, 7 restaurants and 5 bars. There is not wild entertainment on offer but it is worth checking out the tourist office as soon as you get to resort.
