The closest airport to Sun Valley is Friedman airport and is located just 12 miles south in Hailey. In the case that the airport is closed due to poor weather, some planes land in Twin Falls which is 90 minutes away and then bus their passengers for free to the ski area. Jet service is available at Boise airport which is located just 2.5 hours away.

WE LIKE

Bald Mountain is great for experts and snowboarders while Dollar Mountain is a beginners dream. Suits all abilities.
Awesome scenery to enjoy. Plus comfortable temperatures. Amazing mountain restaurants.
This resort is all about laid back comfort or 'roughing it in style', great if you are tired of the concrete, purpose built resorts found elsewhere.

WE DON'T LIKE

Beginners really shouldn't ski Bald Mountain despite the green gradings on runs. So for mixed groups you will need to split up.
The low key atmosphere may not be to everyones liking.
Apres ski is relaxed and refined, this is not a wild boozy scene.

On the Slopes

Sun Valley means the alpine ski area to ski enthusiasts. This area has a European feel and includes both Bald Mountain and Dollar Mountain. Bald Mountain has been referred to as one of the best mountains to ski in the world with a summit of 9,150 feet. Dollar Mountain is treeless and stands at 6,638 feet. Baldy is best suited for expert and intermediate skiers, while beginners should try out their skills at Dollar Mountain first. There is a ski school located at the bottom of Mount Baldy but students are transported to Dollar to have instruction. There are 19 lifts and 1 super pipe between the two mountains.

The night life in Sun Valley is active and offers clubs and bars that cater for different times of the night. Grumpy’s for example is popular for the earlier part of the evening, and then it’s onto the Cellar Pub, and then finally much of the crowd ends up at the Casino Club. Accommodation at the resort is charming and there are several other lodges, hotels and inns to choose from. Activities aside from skiing include dog sledding, ice hockey, horse drawn sleigh rides, heli-skiing, fly fishing, the spa and fitness centre in Sun Valley, and the Sun Valley Centre for the Arts.
