Other Resorts

Skiing in Russia came to more prominence with the hosting of the winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014. There are a large number of ski resorts in Russia, including the resorts around Sochi, Krasnaja Poljana, Mount Cheget, Mount Elbrus and Zavjalikha. Some of these resorts are quite small but many are set within amazing surroundings and offer challenging skiing conditions.

What Russia offers is real diversity in its ski resorts. Here you really will find chic resorts, purpose built resorts alongside old mountain towns. Do remember however that Russia can be expensive for travel and accommodation and it may be best to avoid the winter as it can be very cold, the best time to ski here is March-April.

Check out our resort reviews to select the right resort for you. Russia doesn't tend to have the large lift linked ski areas that you find elsewhere in Europe. When selecting your perfect ski resort do think about what it is you require from your ski holiday. If you only plan to spend a few hours each day on the slopes some of the smaller resorts may be all you need.

How to Choose a Ski Area

In most countries ski resorts can either be part of large lift linked ski areas or they can stand alone. The later can be a great choice if they can offer you all you need. Many skiers choose larger ski areas if they need diversity and a good choice of slopes. Many of these type of ski areas also allow you to buy area lift passes that can work out great value.
