Revelstoke is a great resort if you love heli-skiing! With some of the most dramatic skiing and snowboarding in Canada, this almost brand new ski resort promises almost every type of snow and terrain you can ask for. Read on for more detail.
Where
If you want to ski Revelstoke and you're not a heli-skier - you now have a bespoke ski resort built in 2007/8 offering excellent skiing and snowboarding facilities. With access to a total of half a million acres of terrain on Mount Mackenzie, champagne powder is regular. Access is a bit of a pain if you only have a week to spare, with either a 5 hour drive from Calgary or if you get an internal flight to Kelowna you still have a two and a half hour drive or bus ride to get into resort.
On the Slopes
Ski Revelstoke for North America's highest vertical drop - 1829m (6,000ft). A $22 million eight-person gondola and a high-speed quad provide access to high alpine bowls, and you'll also find beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain with a vertical drop of 1440m - and some of the world's most exciting skiing or snowboarding. There will ultimately be a total of 21 lifts to provide access to this incredible area of mountain and it will truly test your skills.
Mount Mackenzie already offers some great challenges for all levels, is legendary for it's dry Selkirk powder that falls in abundance and some amazing intermediate and expert trails already available. A lot of people have compared Revelstoke to Kicking Horse ski resort (which is close by). With a lot of similar features, Kicking Horse is a more open alpine terrain, Revelstoke with it's tree-lined runs and the big vertical.
Ski Area
If you ski Revelstoke you are in the ski area of British Columbia.
Off the Slopes
With any purpose-built ski resort you will benefit from all the additional facilities that older resorts may not be able to provide. As such Revelstoke offers an aquatic centre, adventure park, dam, railway museum and more. Finding something to do other than skiing will not be a problem. The beautiful little town of Revelstoke offers world-class hotels and bed & breakfast as well as some excellent après-ski bars and restaurants. This is a great place and time to visit for a ski holiday.
