Bulgaria has a great reputation as a good value ski destination. This is certainly true when compared to other ski countries but there is more to Bulgaria than just being cheap. It has great ski schools and a good range of accommodation. But which resorts to choose? What's it Like to Ski Bulgaria?
Bulgaria has a reputation as a cheap, value for money ski destination. We would certainly agree with that, you will undoubtedly spent less money here than you would say in many French resorts. But Bulgaria also offers good snow, great ski schools and is particularly well set up for children.
The best known resorts are Bansko in the Pirin mountain, Borovets in the Rila mountain and Pamporovo in the Rhodopes. Bansko offers a great atmosphere that can only be described as very Bulgarian! It has a very alpine character and has the best snow record in Bulgaria. Borovets has pistes at 2600m and is the closest resort to Sofia airport. Finally Pamporovo is the most modern and the sunniest resort in Bulgaria.
What is the Best Airport to Use?
Sofia airport is the best airport to get to in Bulgaria as it has direct flights to and from the UK. From Sofia airport you are only 50 minutes from Borovets, just under two hours to Bansko and 2.5 hours to Pamporovo. Sofia airport is the busiest airport in Bulgaria and an international airport, providing a key gateway to Eastern Europe. The airport is only 5km away from Sofia city centre.
