Kimberley

Kimberly has been a family favourite ski destination for many years. The ski facility is owned by Resorts of the Canadian Rockies. Kimberly Alpine Resort is a ski destination with a warm atmosphere and one that caters to both younger and older ski enthusiasts.

Where

To get to Kimberly by car, one needs to travel Northwest of Cranbrook on Highway 95A.  This highway intersects Highway 95 at Cranbrook and at Wasa which is further North. This highway connects with a number of other well-travelled highways and makes getting to the resort on good roads very easy, if your vehicle has snow tyres and is equipped for mountain driving. The Canadian Rockies International Airport is situated off Highway 95 A and is 15 km to the southeast of Kimberly. Buses, tour buses, car rental service and taxi service are all available from the airport.

On the Slopes

The ski terrain has a vertical drop of 751 m, and five lifts are available to take skiers to the top of the mountain. There are 80 runs from beginner to intermediate level making it the perfect place to practice and learn if you are trying out skiing for the first time. On the back side of the mountain, the experts and thrill seekers can try out the double black diamond run. The scenery is beautiful and the views across the Rocky Mountain Trench are amazing. Since the newer development of the North Star chairlift is at a lower elevation in the village, ski in and ski out access is available to condos and other accommodation.

Off the Slopes

Aside from downhill skiing, Kimberly offers cross country skiing at the Kimberly Nordic Centre, snowshoeing, heli-tours and snowmobiling. There are several shops to browse in the plaza, some selling alpine speciality equipment and there is also a wide selection of restaurants to enjoy in this Bavarian flavoured town.
