Cheap Ski Hotels

Skiing may not be the cheapest activity but you don't have to pay a fortune. Good value ski accommodation can make all the difference. Find out how you can find good quality but well priced ski hotels.

Many people go on skiing holidays each year and want to find cheap ski hotels that can act as a great base for their holiday. But ski accommodation can work out expensive so it is important to try and get the best deal you can. Here are a few things we think it may be worth considering.

Choose Your Resort Carefully

Some resorts are quite simply more expensive than others. Don't for example expect to ski cheaply in a resort like Val d'Isere, try somewhere like Montgenevre in France or one of the Bulgarian resorts.

Consider Location

You may be lucky and find a cheap ski hotel in the centre of the resort near to all the lifts and action, and they do exist but if they don't do broaden your search to small villages and hamlets just outside the resort. You will find it much cheaper and in many cases there are buses that will get you around. Agreed its not as convenient but you will save shedloads of money.

Check Out The Hostels

Some resorts also offer amazing hostels which are in great locations and offer great facilities. They may require you to share facilities like the bathroom but go with an open mind. They offer amazing value for money and much of the food provided is simple but plentiful and filling.

Last Minute Deals

If you don't mind waiting until the last minute you will often find great offers on empty rooms. If you are travelling with children see if an extra bed can be added in your room, in some countries this will save you heaps of money.

Consider Apartments

Apartments will often work out cheaper than hotels and chalets. True you will need to buy your own food but if you can stock up in a supermarket on the way to the resort, resort supermarkets are traditionally very expensive, then you could save yourself lots of money. If booking a hotel do check very carefully what's included. Breakfast is usually a given but not all hotels provide an evening meal in with the price of the room.

In Summary

Skiing is never going to be the cheapest activity but there are ways to make it more bearable. Choose the resort carefully, find cheap accommodation and see what great online deals you can get on equipment hire. If travelling with children also check out those resorts that offer children free lift passes. Also, if you are a first time skier borrow as much as you can to see if you like it. Also, try not to buy too much in resort, it will always cost more!
