Ski Holidays in Spain
Most Brits probably still associate Spain with summer holidays but the ski market is very well established here. In fact Spain has 1000km of ski runs and 36 resorts! The Pyrenees offers great resorts including Formigal and Baquiera and in Sierra Nevada it is possible to ski and sit on a beach on the same day. Spain offers good resorts, great food and also very good value for money.
Why Ski in Spain?
Quite simply Spain is considerably cheaper than other European ski resorts. Not only are the resorts themselves cheaper but there are so many flights with budget airlines from the UK to cities like Madrid and Barcelona. So overall the cost of your property is less than you would spend in neighbouring France.
But it's not just the cost. Many ski resorts are near cities so you can combine your skiing with visits to some amazing Spanish cities. Granada for example is near to the skiing in Sierra Nevada and Madrid has three ski resorts all close by. Add to this great food and a laid back, welcoming culture and you can see why Spain is becoming more popular as a ski destination.

Which Ski Resort?
There are a number of ski resorts to choose from, each offering you different things depending on what you are looking for. Baqueira for example is a fashionable resort in the Catalan Pyrenees with extensive and challenging ski areas. Formigal on the other hand close to the border with France tends to be a bit quieter, and is especially good with families.
For those of you who want really steep blacks then check out Candanchu. Beginners and intermediates will love la Molina, only a 3.5 hour train journey from Barcelona. Neighbouring Masella is great for advanced skiers, it is very beautiful but doesn't have the best nightlife. If you want the more undiscovered, uncommercialised resort then check out Panticosa which tends to attract more of the locals.
