Sun Peaks CA

Sun Peaks

If you ski Sun Peaks you are in Canada's third largest ski area. With over 2,000 hours of sunshine a year, skiing and snowboarding here means you are bound to get sun. Great powder and over 3700 acres of slopes await you across 3 mountains. Read our resort guide for more information.

Where

Ski Sun Peaks for ski-in ski-out convenience, uncrowded pistes, and light, dry snow that makes for great champagne powder - over 5 metres of powder per year. This is a new resort - the first stone was only laid in 1993 - which means it is well planned. With pedestrian-only streets and European-style buildings, it is also very attractive. Transfers are relatively easy, although around four hours from Vancouver or five from Seattle, WA.

WE LIKE

  • Purpose built resort, great ski in ski out accomodation, motto of resort is '3mountains 1 village'. Great for families
  • Excellent resort for boarders with a 2500ft terrain park, mini terrain park, half pipe and boadercross
  • Great range of riding for all levels, good for mixed ability groups, slopes are quiet and uncrowded

WE DON'T LIKE

  • Village may be too small and quiet for some tastes, apres ski is not wild!
  • Snow on some of the lower steep terrain can suffer from the sun, resort gets over 2000 hours of sunshine a year!
  • Although the second largest ski area in BC, it's not big by Alpine standards

On the Slopes

If you choose to ski Sun Peaks, there's nearly 3700 acres of skiable terrain and 124 runs spread across three mountains (Mount Tod, Mount Morrisey and Sundance), which means they offer great variety. This ski area is second in size only to Whistler - it's distant neighbour.

Beginners will find gentle nursery slopes in the village, and a series of easy greens to progress to. Intermediates will find plenty of choice across all 3 mountains, while there is good, steep terrain for advanced skiers, especially on Mount Tod.

Ski Area

If you ski Sun Peaks you are in the ski area of British Columbia.

Off the Slopes

With its pedestrianised town centre, the Sun Peaks ski resort is a great family choice - you'll find a ski school, a childminding centre, the Kids Ranch, and a Kids Adventure Park with plenty of activities to keep your children happy. It also feels like a traditional ski resort.

And while the après-ski isn't as lively as many European resorts, there are enough restaurants and bars to keep everyone happy. This includes hotel bars and the 4* Delta Resort.

Who's it Best For?

Great for all levels, but families and boarders are particularly well catered for.

Sun Peaks is located in the interior of British Columbia. There are really two choice of airports, Kamloops Airport which is 60km away and Kelowna, 210km away. Kamloops airport is a regional airport which receives flights from Vancouver and Calgary and Kelowna has flights from Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Seattle and Los Angeles.

Kelowna tends to be the best choice due to the greater scope of airlines using it. Kamloops can also sometimes close due to weather issues. A car is not really necessary in Sun Peaks due to the compact purpose built nature of the resort so we would recommend that you look at other options.

Airport Shuttles

There are airport shuttles available from both airports. The journey from Kamloops takes about 45 minutes, from Kelowna 2 hours 30 minutes. Shuttles can be organised in advance from Sun Star Shuttle.

If however you want to drive to explore a bit more then the drive is fairly easy. From Vancouver the drive is about 4 hours, 30 minutes. There is parking in the resort which is ;argely underground as well as parking at the main base lodge.
