Where?

If you choose to ski Bad Hofgastein you will be in the heart of a traditional Austrian Alpine village close to Salzburg, With cobbled streets and relaxed but lively après-ski, you can unwind while enjoying some great skiing and snowboarding. The ski transfer from Salzburg airport is just over the one hour mark, with other airports close to 2 hours away. You also have the option of arriving by rail with the train station bang in the middle of the village.

On the slopes

The extensive Gasteinertal/Sportgastein ski area is one of the largest individual ski areas in Austria with around 120km of slopes - predominately for advanced skiers and boarders. Beginners and younger children will probably head towards the Angertal area initially - which is a ski bus from the resort. Skiers and boarders can also get up into the Stubnerkogel mountain easily here too. The Schlossalm is accessible directly from Bad Hofgastein via a cable car - opening up some great reds and some good off-piste too.

The area boasts the world cup area of the Graukogel, the Stubernkogel and the rest of the Sportgastein area that are unfortunately above the tree-line. This area is perfect for those who enjoy long distance cruising but it's not ideal for novices. For boarders there's also a good snow/terain park as well as an additional half-pipe - there's also a lot of draglifts!

Off the slopes

Both Bad Hofgastein and nearby Bad Gastein are famous for their thermal waters, so why not relax in the state-of-the-art leisure facilities at the newly renovated spa. Bad Hofgastein ski resort is a quiet one in general, but still offers over 35 restaurants, plus a lively après-ski. You'll also find a great variety of activities if you fancy a day away from the slopes, including ice skating, curling, tobogganing, sleigh rides, ice climbing, and snow shoe walking.
