Fieberbrunn is something of a well kept secret. It may not be the best known ski resort in Austria yet it has the best snow record in the Kitzbuheler Alps and is something of a mecca for those who love their off piste.

Where?

Fieberbrunn is located on the mountain range between Kitzbuhel and Saalbach. It is part of the Schneewinkel ski area which includes St Johann in Tirol and Waidring. Salzburg airport is the nearest with a transfer time of 1 hour, Munich is two hours away and Innsbruck is 1 and a half hours away.

On the slopes

Fieberbrunn is best for beginners and intermediates. But experts should remember that the Schneewinkel ski area adds 170km of piste to play with. A free shuttle bus service connects the whole area so travelling around is easy. Fieberbrunn has its own micro climate and with north facing slopes it has an impressive snow record which lasts well into April. Off piste is great here,it is now a major stop on the Freeride World Tour, a testament to the quality of the off piste. It is also a great resort for snowboarders. Fiberbrunn has hosted the Snowboard Masters World Cup, the European Snowboard Championships and Lord of the Boards. There is a giant terrain park here.

Off the slopes

There is a swimming and sauna complex here, floodlit toboggan run, snow biking, ice climbing, sleigh rides and snowshoeing. There are a good choice of mountain huts and restaurants in resort. This is not wild evening entertainment but it can be lively and a lot cheaper than other Austrian resorts.
